User Experience – Animation Design
The Web is quickly becoming a three dimensional space. Static web pages are increasingly being replaced by highly interactive web experiences. Many of these experiences are closer to that of the desktop than they are to a traditional page based web site. Because of this, designers need to think about more than placement and images. They need to think about how elements of a page animate as they move from one state to another. Effective animation can create an experience that is both intuitive and rich.
At Roundarch, we take the same pragmatic user centered approach to animation as we do to any design component. We start with the purpose of the animation. Is it meant to immerse the user in a brand experience or is it meant to simplify a user task. We then layer on animation patterns to achieve that goal. Our goal is always to create animation patterns that are intuitive to users and that serve the dual roles of illustrating a function that can be done better than a static image and making the experience a joy to use. Finally, we hone the emanation to remove any extraneous elements.
